Medical oversight
Every med spa offering injectables, lasers, or prescription treatments must operate under a licensed physician (MD or DO). Ask who the medical director is, whether they are on-site or remote, and how often they review charts.

Every med spa offering injectables, lasers, or prescription treatments must operate under a licensed physician (MD or DO). Ask who the medical director is, whether they are on-site or remote, and how often they review charts.
Treatments should be performed by licensed RNs, NPs, PAs, or physicians — never unlicensed estheticians. Ask for license numbers (they're public) and how long the provider has performed your specific treatment.
A real med spa starts with a consultation: medical history, allergies, contraindications, photos, and goals. If a clinic offers injectables without a consult, walk out.
Reputable spas use FDA-approved products purchased directly from manufacturers (Allergan, Galderma, Merz, etc.). Ask to see the vial. Counterfeit Botox and filler is a real, documented problem.
Pricing should be itemized by unit (Botox per unit) or by syringe (filler per mL). Be cautious of 'package deals' that hide unit counts, and of pricing far below market — it usually means diluted product or unlicensed providers.
For filler especially, the clinic must stock hyaluronidase (Hylenex) on-site and have a written vascular-occlusion protocol. Ask. The answer should be immediate and specific.
