How to Choose the Best Med Spa: An Unbiased Buyer's Guide
This guide is vendor-neutral. It tells you what to verify, what to ask, and what to walk away from — at any med spa, anywhere in the U.S. No sponsored picks, no affiliate links, no rankings of specific clinics.
The Six Things That Actually Matter
Provider credentials
Treatments should be performed by licensed RNs, NPs, PAs, or physicians — never unlicensed estheticians. Ask for license numbers (they're public) and how long the provider has performed your specific treatment.
Consultation process
A real med spa starts with a consultation: medical history, allergies, contraindications, photos, and goals. If a clinic offers injectables without a consult, walk out.
Product authenticity
Reputable spas use FDA-approved products purchased directly from manufacturers (Allergan, Galderma, Merz, etc.). Ask to see the vial. Counterfeit Botox and filler is a real, documented problem.
Transparent pricing
Pricing should be itemized by unit (Botox per unit) or by syringe (filler per mL). Be cautious of 'package deals' that hide unit counts, and of pricing far below market — it usually means diluted product or unlicensed providers.
Emergency protocol
For filler especially, the clinic must stock hyaluronidase (Hylenex) on-site and have a written vascular-occlusion protocol. Ask. The answer should be immediate and specific.

- 07What is your policy on touch-ups and dissatisfaction?
- 08Will my consult be with the same person performing the treatment?
Red Flags — Walk Away
- Injectables offered without a medical consultation
- Pricing dramatically below local market rates
- Provider refuses to show product packaging or state license number
- No physician medical director listed
- Pressure to buy packages on the first visit
- Treatments performed in non-medical settings (salons, homes, hotel rooms)
- No written informed-consent form
- Before/after photos that look obviously edited or stock
